Thank you to all our patients who took part in our recent survey – we appreciate the time you took to tell us your views.
We’d like to share the results of the survey and tell you how we’re addressing the areas you highlighted we need to work on.
Firstly, the positives. Most of you agreed with the following statements, indicating these are our strengths:
- The clinical team respect me
- The clinical team paid attention to what I had to say
- Reception staff are helpful
- I am confident my information will remain private & confidential
In terms of what we need to work on, these were the statements you indicated needed focus – we’ve also explained how we are addressing these areas:
Everything ran to time
We know that your time is precious and we understand of the frustration of the long wait times. As a practice, we have historically operated as a predominantly walk in clinic. The reason for this is ensure that all our patients have access to a GP when they need it. In contrast, if we move to an appointment system it may result that you may have to wait a few days or weeks before you can see a GP.
As a practice, we have opened some appointments slots each day. They are limited but it is a compromise as while we see a merit to an appointment system, we see it as more beneficial to our patients that they are able to see a GP on the same day that it is required.
So that patients can be informed of the wait time, our reception will inform you of the anticipated wait time and/or your place in the queue. You can choose to wait in the waiting room or attend to some other activity in the interim. We will also investigate technology or app that will allow you to see your place in the queue in real time after you check in.
As a practice we also understand that ultimately the reduction in waiting time will be the to increase the number of GPs to service you. Unfortunately, there is currently a shortage of doctors, particularly in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne. So we do ask for your patience in this respect.
I received enough information
We know that your help is important and hope that when you leave your appointment with the GP that you understand your condition or health question. However, we understand that at times the terminology used can be hard to understand at the time and may need some time to digests.
If you still do not understand, please feel free to ask reception or the GPs if there are other available resources which they can print out or point you in the right direction. Our website, also has reputable websites that may be able to assists.
I am able to see a doctor quickly when I need to
As a predominantly walk-in medical clinic, we can accommodate most patients who need to be seen on that day. Our reception/nurse will triage your needs and if it is urgent you will be seen as soon as possible.
